Beekeeping becomes Revolutionary

Posted In: Conservatory | News

One of greatest joys as a child was when I was beekeeping with my Father. My Dad and I didn’t have the best relationship, but the best times were when we spent quality time with eachother, working on his Bee business. At five years old, I would put on my beekeeping suit, much like this one, and take my little beekeeping smoker while following my Father out to the Bee Hives. I would get so excited, hearing the Bees Buzz louder and louder the closer I got to the hives.
Child Beekeeping SuitMy Father and I would work as a team to distract the Bees while we took out the trays full of honey, then we would have to scrap off the honeycombs into a bucket. You could imagine what a long messy sticky process it was. I’ll I could remember from the process is that the honey got everywhere, and knowing me at five years old it probably did, you would think the suit and gloves would help but they didn’t.

From my found memories beekeeping with my Father, it gave me such an appreciation towards the honey process, and how amazing these beneficial pollinators are to us. I’m always reading about beekeeping and I’m always helping Bee organizations, on the fight to save these endangered species. Bee’s are such a vital part of our eco-system, without them we wouldn’t have 70% percent of our food source. Could you imagine life without; fruits, vegetables, grains, rice, wheat and so on? I cant… so that’s why I only garden organically and I buy organic produce.

I’m always in aww with beekeepers on the messy hard process, of getting that yummy honey. Surely there is a better way to get that honey from the hives that don’t stress out the bees or the beekeepers? Well now there is! I have been following a beekeeping company called; Honey Flow™ since they started their crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo since March of this year. After a extremely successful campaign raising over 12 million dollars, they now have their bee hives for sale. These beehives are a complete game changer, beekeeping becomes revolutionary. Not only does it become easy to collect the honey, but it’s on tab!

Here is how Honey Flow™ works:

1. The Flow™ frame fits into a standard langstroth super (8 or 10 frame)
Two simple doorways are cut in one end of the box to allow access for honey collection, end frame observation and tool access for operation.
2. The Flow™ frame consists of partly formed honeycomb cells. The bees complete the comb with their wax then fill the cells with honey, before finally capping the cells.
3. When frames are full of honey, its ready to harvest.
4. Inside the honeycomb the cells have now split and turned into channels for the honey to flow down. The bees remain undisturbed on the surface of the comb. If there does happen to be a bee down an empty cell it wont get injured as there is enough space between the comb walls.
5. It’s that simple and it’s literally honey on tap from your beehive

Hopefully one day, I could get my own Honey Flow™ Hive, so I too can enjoy fresh honey on tab!
